MSC 2022 Registration
The Mizoram Science Congress (MSC) is a Two Days event organized by Mizoram Science, Technology and Innovation Council (MISTIC), Directorate of Science and Technology (DST) Mizoram, Govt. of Mizoram in collaboration with science NGOs in Mizoram such as Mizo Academy of Sciences (MAS), Mizoram Science Society (MSS), Science Teachers’ Association, Mizoram (STAM), Geological Society of Mizoram (GSM), Mizoram Mathematics Society (MMS), Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Network (BIOCONE) and Mizoram Information & Technology Society (MITS).
Mizoram and its neighboring states in the North-East India are way behind the mainland India in science education at the school and higher degree levels. The state in particular with limited industry and fewer natural resources is in need of developing its human resource potential. Promotion of science and technology education, indigenous scientific talents, innovations and providing platform for young talents in university, colleges and schools is essential for socio-economic development of the state. Intervention of science and technology at various sectors including urban planning, agriculture, animal husbandry, waste management, rural development, elementary and higher education is imperative for tackling many of the socio-economic issues of the state. The state with its vast forest coverage is endowed with a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is also extremely important to give awareness to the people on the importance of ecology and its preservation.
For the past several years, the science NGOs in the state have been putting up their best effort independently in their respective area of interest and focus to popularize science & technology education for the benefit of the people of Mizoram. To a certain extent, their efforts have been successful and are partly responsible for a number of young engineers, scientists, and doctors, who are now working in various parts of India and even abroad. However, in terms of the number of individuals with potential for employment in R & D institutions, and science & technology based industries, the state is still very much behind other states in North East India. In view of the various issues mentioned above, science NGOs of the state believe that a collective effort is needed to organize a national level seminar/conference with a theme focusing on the promotion of science and technology education in the state. With the financial support of NEC, MISTIC and DST – SERB, the first of such event, Mizoram Science Congress 2016 was successfully organized. The event not only witness large participation of scientist and researchers within and outside the state but also school/ college students, innovators and government departments of the state. It was such a success that the organizers of the congress are convinced that this should not be a one-time event and the second Mizoram Science Congress 2018 (MSC 2018) followed. In 2020, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Congress was organized in online mode during December3-4, 2020. Brief report of the Congress are given in the later pages.
Organizing Committee for MSC 2022 has been formed. The committee is yet to propose the theme for the fourth event and it will be chosen so as to specifically address the relevant state issues. This theme will provide a broad platform for researchers, academicians, and school and college students from Mizoram and other states in North-East India. The organizing committee also intends to invite eminent scientists, scholars and experts from other parts of India to address the issues of Mizoram within the scope of the congress. This event hopes to provide a forum for young researchers from around the state and elsewhere to exchange knowledge and share advances in their research findings and development of technologies of relevance especially to the state.
The event will consist of technical sessions involving theme lectures by eminent scientists, research presentation by young researchers, post-graduate student dissertation presentation, exhibitions and Children’s Science Congress.
OBJECTIVE:
The main objectives of Mizoram Science Congress are summarized in the following points:
(i) To revitalize Scientific Research and Development (R&D) activities in the state.
(ii) To promote science and technology to tackle socio-economic issues in the state.
(iii) To spread awareness for conservation of natural resources.
SCOPE :
The Mizoram Science Congress provides a forum for interaction of the researchers, academicians, and students from the state and elsewhere to exchange knowledge and share advances in their research findings and development of technologies of relevance especially to the state. Provisions are also made for indigenous innovators to promote their works.
The two days event will consist of technical sessions covering theme lectures by eminent scientists, research presentation by young researchers and Children Science Congress. ‘Best Paper Awards’ will be awarded to selected papers presented under the different subject areas. Exhibitions in school and college levels, and indigenous works will also run in parallel with the technical sessions.
